A brief history of Heather Flores
Born in Portland to a teenage groupie, Heather Flores grew up on the road, immersed in 1970's west coast rock and roll culture. By the age of 15 she, too, was out on her own, surfing couches through the drug-addled late 80's LA punk and ska scene (think house parties with then-unknown band Sublime.) By her early twenties, Heather had found her way back to the Northwest, diving full force into the high-profile forest defense campaigns of the mid 1990's, and in 1999 she co-founded the original chapter of the avant-gardening movement, Food Not Lawns. Since then she has grown gardens, organized events, taught workshops, played shows, and learned all sorts of amazing things, all around the world~
In recent years, Heather Flores has shifted her focus from direct action and environmental education to a more subtle, yet undeniably effective form of activism: folk music.
